Scout – 9/95-5/09
Companion, best friend, protector, explorer, nosey – just some of the words that define what our blue heeler-Scout – was in her 13 ½ years with us. She traveled all over the United States with us and lived in the suburbs of Colorado, the coast of Maine, rural Idaho, and the countryside of Oregon. She loved to swim and bite sparkles in the water and she swam in both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. She was the “queen” of the house, greeting and herding anyone that came into our home. And she would grump for attention, then point with her eyes for her favorite toy or a treat. In her youth she could catch Frisbees and balls for hours on end, exhausting us, but ever ready to keep going. She was extremely nosey and had to investigate every shopping bag we brought home to “see” what we had. Scout would engage us with an almost-human gaze and talk with us; she was a truly special friend. She developed cancer in November 2008 and we had hopes that the surgery would be successful, but, the cancer came back. We decided to spare her more surgery, and with her family and dog companion, Dudley, around her, we let her slip away to a more peaceful place. A light has gone out of our home and our lives. We love and miss you, Scoutie.
